How to Make a UTV Quieter

UTVs are powerful and all that power can come with a bit of unwanted noise. From disturbing those around you to just being annoying, noisy UTV’s can be a bit of a headache - pun intended. If you use your UTV for hunting you may also find that it is disruptive to your space and can ward off animals. Though you cannot completely remove the noise associated with your UTV, there are a few things you can do to lessen the amount of noise that your UTV makes.

At Bob’s Motorsports, we are passionate about the outdoors and all things Powersports. We want you to make the most of your time outdoors and are committed to ensuring you have the knowledge and gear to keep the adventure going. In this article, we will give you some suggestions for how you can make your UTV a bit quieter and a little more enjoyable for everyone.

How to Make Your UTV Quieter

There are three main things that you can try to lower the amount of sound your UTV makes. Though none of these options will make your UTV stealthy quiet, they should help to significantly reduce the amount of sound your UTV makes. Remember that your UTV is a machine with an engine and will always make sound when it operates.

Add an Exhaust Silencer – one of the most straightforward and simplest ways to reduce the noise your UTV makes is to get an exhaust silencer. You can often install an exhaust silencer on your own for instant results. This will change the sound of your muffler and direct the noise towards the ground rather than out towards anyone or anything around you.

Consider insulating your UTV – insulating your UTV is a bit more involved than simply adding a silencer, but it can help to reduce the noise it makes significantly. You may wish to consider consulting with your local UTV service department for assistance with completing this project.

Get a Tune-up – if your UTV is usually fairly quiet and is now starting to make more noise, you might want to consider getting it checked for any issues. Sometimes replacing some of the old and worn-down parts of your UTV can go a long way into making it a bit quieter. You may also find that some parts are loose and need to be tightened up for optimal performance and sound reduction.

What Is a Good, Quiet UTV?

UTVs can be loud and although there are a few things you can do to help reduce its noise, your best bet in keeping quiet might be to simply purchase one of the quieter UTVs available. But what is the quietest UTV on the market? Almost all UTVs are loud, but the Yamaha Wolverine X4 is a great option for anyone who needs to move people while keeping quieter. For best results, consider adding a silencer and insulating your UTV on top of buying an already quieter option.
